Conceived in summer 2008 by former Aborted members Daniel Wilding (drums) and B.S.T. (vocals, Balrog, Genital Grinder, Garwall), The Order of Apollyon took on the role of the Celebrant of the Word of the Lord. The project is more than a simple extreme metal band; it is a musical covenant. The message is profoundly religious and adheres to strict paramilitary imagery while the music draws from elements of the ambient martial scene. The band began work on the first offering following the induction of guitarist James McIlroy (CRADLE OF FILTH) and bassist Peter Benjamin (ACKERCOCKE). The opus, entitled “The Flesh”,...
Shannon Lyon gained notoriety in his hometown of Kitchener (west of Toronto in the heart of southern Ontario), almost immediately after forming his first band, Strange Days, in 1989. Following one album and national touring (their east coast jaunt saw the fledgling Tea Party joining them as support act), they dissolved, with Lyon opting for a solo career. Producer Chris Keup entered the room, informing them that the three feet of snow on the ground meant they weren’t going anywhere. He stated simply… “You can’t go back.” Unfazed, the band used their time in the dark to work on arrangements. They huddled...
Little is known about this jazz and R&B singer who was active in the mid to late 1950s. Her earliest known recordings, made in 1955 or 56, are with Erskine Hawkins and His Orchestra: "Waltz in Blue" and "Nobody Plays Piano Like Sacramento" (Decca 9-29864 and 9-30034, respectively). On the latter, she is backed by Ace Harris on piano. In 1957, she recorded two sides of a 45 rpm single for Apollo Records, a small independent label based in New York City: "Call Me Darling" and "Palm of Your Hand" (AP 3630). Neither side charted, though "Palm" was listed as...
