Quarteto em Cy (a play on words of the Portuguese for 'Quartet in B' by poet and lyricist Vinicius de Moraes) is a quartet of sisters from the Tropicalia musical movement in Brazil. They first became known for their collaborations with Vinicius de Moraes, and later worked with a number of other composers from the movement. They are Cybele, Cylene, Cynara, and Cyva. .
Quarteto Novo only released one album, yet they number amongst one of the more influential acts in Brazilian music. Originally set up as a trio by a pharmaceutical company who wanted a live band at an event, they were then picked up by Geraldo Vandré (who was, at that time in 1966, the winner of a Brazilian music popularity competition) for a tour of the Brazilian North East. Breno Sauer (born in Porto Alegre/RS), a master of vibraphone - influenced for Art Van Dame -, success of the boite Marrocos (Curitiba/PR) since 1960, was influenced by Musica Regional, which is made up of guitar, accordion, flute, pandeiro and cavaquinho. The sound of the accordion is on all tracks of this LP. Later on, Breno Sauer has assembled Breno Sauer Quarteto -: Breno Sauer (vibraphone); Portinho (drums); Adão (piano); Erni (bass) - releasing the successful LPs "4 na Bossa" and "4 no Sucesso".
