Skylight are a shoegaze band from Chicago, Illinois, USA. They started out in the early 1990s, when they released two EPs, 'She got lost' (1990) and 'As you leave' (1991). After their demise in 1996, Perry and Brent reunited in 2007 and so Skylight was reborn.

Perry grew up in New York and New Jersey and has been in bands since age 15. He spent most of the 80s gigging with a punk-rock band (whose name shall go unmentioned) in legendary clubs around the area. When Perry first saw Echo and The Bunnymen in the late 80s, he knew he would start a band someday that would be much different than what he was playing at the time. As 1990 rang in, when the shoegaze movement was front and centre, Perry discovered the music that was in his heart. Bands like Swervedriver, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, and Ride had comforting-yet-trippy sounds that inspired his art. Making friends with and spending much time with some of the bands above. Perry formed Skylight with Mike B, and they started recording and gigging together while living in a house in Nashua, New Hampshire. Their first show drew over 300 people—quite an accomplishment for a no-name band. In 1991, they returned to the New York area to rehearse and record some more until Mike left in 1992.

Brent has been playing guitar and recording music since the age of 14.Growing up in New England provided him with enough boredom to encourage experimentation. He’d never one satisfied with popular music or trends, and spent much of his life seeking out music on the fringe. He began playing in metal and alternative bands in the early 90s but quickly found that the music he loved to listen to wasn't the music he loved to play. That's when he discovered bands like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, and Moonshake, that's also when he met Perry. From the first time they plugged in together, everything clicked. His guitar added absolute magic to Skylight’s developing sound, and Perry and Brent spent the next year writing and recording together.

Skylight rides again…

Fast forward to 2007, when Perry and Brent met up and decided to make music together again. They needed a singer and another guitar player. And the family grows:

Kim is a writer by profession but has played with poetry and lyrics forever. She was looking for a band who would give her the chance to contribute more than just vocals for classic rock covers (which she still sings in the shower). She wanted to be part of a band that created the music. As soon as she heard Skylight’s instrumental tracks—which sounded too good to be true—she knew she needed to talk to them. She loved the guys immediately, and it’s been special from the start.

Peet has been playing guitar for about twenty years. He has been in band after band, not quite finding his ideal sound until he discovered Skylight, and now he can’t keep his hands off his guitar. His influences range from Gilmour to Fahey, and from Buddy to Thurston. And, lucky for the band, he has an uncanny knack for writing perfect guitar tracks that complement Kim’s smooth vocals to a tee.
