Nirvana war eine US-amerikanische Grunge-Band aus Aberdeen im Bundesstaat Washington. Nachdem die Band im Jahr 1987 gegründet wurde, erreichte sie Ende 1991 mit dem Song Smells Like Teen Spirit und dem Album Nevermind große Popularität. Sieben Jahre nach der Gründung löste sich die Band im Frühjahr 1994 im Zusammenhang mit dem Tod des Sängers und Songschreibers Kurt Cobain auf. Die Band verkaufte ca. 75 Millionen Tonträger.
