Cesária Évora (* 27. August 1941 in Mindelo; † 17. Dezember 2011 ebenda) ist die bekannteste Sängerin Kap Verdes und gilt als Königin der Morna. Cesária Évora wird die „barfüßige Diva“ genannt, weil sie traditionell ohne Schuhe und Strümpfe auftritt. Sie stammt aus einer Musikerfamilie der Stadt Mindelo auf der Insel São Vicente. Der Vater war Geiger. Nach seinem frühen Tod kam Cesária erst in ein Kinderheim, dann zu Pflegeeltern.
