Jake Shimabukuro is a young ukulele virtuoso from Honolulu, Hawaii. Combining elements of jazz, rock, Hawaiian, and pop, he is often called the Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele. His discography includes the solo albums: Sunday Morning, Walking Down Rainhill, Crosscurrent, and Dragon (released October 2005). He has also released an instructional DVD called "Play Ukulele Loud". Jake has toured with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones and with Jimmy Buffett. .

Their first eponymous album received great critical acclaim upon its release in 1992. The songs are nearly all classic pop tunes tinged with dark overtones. Maputo-based multi-generational collective Mabulu are one of a number of nu-generation African bands balancing dance music, traditional roots sounds, and the verbal acrobatics and conscious social lyrics of rap and hip-hop. Mabulu was brought together by East German Roland Hohberg, who was living in Maputo. He brought together the best of several different musical genres and generations for this project. They are part of the burgeoning musical scene in Mozambique, and have toured successfully throughout Europe. .

Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse was born in Johannesburg on 2 November 1951. Mabuse got his start in the African soul group the Beaters in the mid-1970s. After a successful tour of Zimbabwe they changed the group's name to Harari. When they returned to their homeland in South Africa they began to draw almost exclusively on American-style funk, soul, and pop music, sung in Zulu and Sotho as well as English.
