Geir Henning Braaten (1944) is one of Norway's most active and significant pianists. He studied at the Conservatory of Music under Magne Elvestrand and Nicolai Dirdal until his debut in 1966. Later he studied in Paris for six years under Yvonee Lefebure, in Vienna under Bruno Seidlhofer, and in Spain. In 1967 he won first prize in the Princess Astrid Competition for young Norwegion pianists; he also won first medal in the Concurso Maria Canals in Barcelona (1972), and was a prizewinner in the Concours Debussy in St.Germain-en-Laye in 1977.
