Coleman Hawkins dit Bean (haricot) (21 novembre 1904 - 19 mai 1969) était un saxophoniste ténor de jazz. Il fut l’un des solistes majeurs du middle jazz. Il est le premier saxophoniste ténor à avoir su donner dans les années 1920 un vrai son de qualité, plein et sensuel à cet instrument, qui n’était avant lui pas encore l’instrument emblématique du jazz et était peu utilisé dans ce genre.
