Gli Aqua Timez sono un gruppo di cinque membri che, grazie al solo debutto, sono riusciti ad entrare nei cuori degli ascoltatori Giapponesi. Il loro stile è un misto di rock, Reggae, Rap e pop, e vengono comparati spesso a gruppi come HY, Def Tech ed altri ancora. Matt Hales si è ispirato al celebre album dei Jethro Tull “Aqualung” per scegliere il proprio pseudonimo. Il musicista londinese, dopo aver fatto una lunga gavetta con alcune cover-band, ha iniziato l’attività solista combinando un cantato lieve con programmazioni fatte al computer. Molti i punti di riferimento nel suo sound che, per il risalto concesso al piano, richiama Coldplay e Radiohead, e per la grazia si può accostare a certi episodi di David Gray.
