The Supremes were a very successful Motown all-female singing group active from 1959 until 1977, performing at various times doo-wop, pop, soul, Broadway showtunes, psychedelia, and disco. One of Motown's signature acts, The Supremes were the most successful African-American musical act of the 1960s, recording twelve #1 hits between 1964 and 1969, many of them written and produced by Motown's main songwriting and production team, Holland-Dozier-Holland. The crossover success of the Supremes during the mid-1960s paved the way for future black soul and R&B acts to gain mainstream audiences both in the United States and overseas.

Machinae Supremacy is a metal band from Luleå, Sweden. Their musical style is based on the use of the Sidstation synthesizer, which incorporates the SID (Sound Interface Device) of the Commodore 64 home computer. The retro-electronic sound is blended with a metal sound to produce a special kind of "SID-metal" . Their album Redeemer (released March 18th, 2006 as an 'Underground Edition'), was described by the band in an interview as everything DXM (Deus Ex Machinae, the debut album) wasn't. The Supreme Cool Beings were a lo-fi indie band from Olympia, Washington that formed in 1982. They consisted of Heather Lewis, Gary Allen May and Doug Monaghan. They gigged around Olypmia and Tacoma for roughly half a year before recording "Surival of the Coolest" live on KAOS-FM.
The Supreme Cool Beings were seminally Olympian in a number of ways: they often did not use a bass guitar, had both male and female vocals, a female drummer, and played in multiple bands at the same time. Though now commonplace, these features were quite unusual in 1982.
