Utworzona w 1998 w Wilkes-Barre w Pennsylwanii, USA przez wokalistę Bena Burnleya i perkusistę Jeremy'ego Hummel'a, grupa Breaking Benjamin szybko znalazła sobie lokalnych fanów. W 1999 grupa zmieniła tymczasowo nazwę na "Plan 9". Pod koniec roku 2000, po wielu zmianach, grupa zmieniła z powrotem nazwę na "Breaking Benjamin" do której dołączyło dwóch przyjaciół Burnley'a, Aaron Fink oraz Mark James Klepaski jako gitarzysta i basista, którzy opuścili swoją dotychczasową kapelę Lifer. Breaking Circus was a postpunk band from the 1980s, based in Chicago and later Minneapolis, led by guitarist and vocalist Steve Björklund. Björklund had earlier been a guitarist and vocalist for Strike Under; Breaking Circus was his next project. Breaking Circus signed to Homestead Records for their first release, The Very Long Fuse (1985), which borrowed members of label-mates Big Black, Naked Raygun and Man Sized Action for its drum machine-based production. Breaking Wheel is a band formerly known as Artilery, formed in Boston, Massachusetts. The first version of their band, Artillery, contributed a song for the 2005 Playstation 2 video game, Guitar Hero. They later changed their name to Breaking Wheel and recorded an EP of the same name. The tracks One For The Road and Shoulder To The Plow are on Guitar Hero 2 and Rock Band 2 respectively. .
