Soundgarden - amerykański zespół rockowy, identyfikowany z nurtem grunge, czerpiący jednak inspirację z tradycji muzycznej zespołów garażowych lat sześćdziesiątych i szeroko pojętego rocka psychodelicznego. Muzyka grupy opierała sie na cięzkich riffach gitarowych Kima Thayila, wysokim śpiewie Chrisa Cornella i gęstej grze sekcji rytmicznej. Został założony w 1984 przez Chrisa Cornella (wokal) oraz Hiro Yamamoto (gitara basowa), do których w późniejszym czasie dołączył Kim Thayil (gitara), który przeprowadził się do Seattle z Illinois z Hiro Yamamoto oraz Brucem Pavittem.
