Los Panchos was formed by the Mexican musicians Alfredo "El Güero" Gil, José de Jesús "Chucho", and the Boricua Hernando Avilés in 1944 in New York City. Their romantic boleros have caught the ears of an international audience. Latin America still regards them as one of the best trios ever. .
Singer/songwriter Pancho Barraza (born Francisco Javier Barraza Rodríguez), became involved in Mexican traditional music after moving to Mazatlán and joining Banda San Sebastian and Banda Camino. He became los Recoditos' leading singer in 1991, playing along with brothers Miguel, Víctor, and Silvano Sarabia, Poncho Lizarraga, and Enrique Valdez. In 1995, Pancho Barraza began his solo career, making his debut with an album that was recorded along with Banda Santa María. ~ Drago Bonacich .
Pancho Quinto is a master of the bata, the Yoruba ceremonial drum, as well as of the quinto, the lead drum used in the rumba, which has its roots in the Cross River Delta among the Efik and the Efo. Interviewed on his '98 tour to the US, Pancho said: " I play a polyrhythmic rumba. I never go outside the Cuban rumba, and I play that perfectly, but I add to it, as if I had a whole drum set in my hands. And I play many instruments, like cajon [wooden box], bata, bells."
