Martin Briley is a British born singer-songwriter, guitarist and keyboardist. Briley began playing and writing music when he was ten years old. At the age of seventeen, he and his band "Mandrake Paddle Steamer" (later shortened to Mandrake) signed their first record deal with Parlophone/EMI, and subsequently recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Born in Kingston, Jamaica on 22 May 1954,[1] Riley grew up in the city's Waterhouse district and attended Kingston Senior School along with Slim Smith.[2] When Smith had success in The Techniques, Riley hung around with the group hoping to join, but was limited to carrying things for them and helping out with harmonies.[2] He decided to form his own group, The Sensations, along with Cornell Campbell, Buster Riley (brother of The Techniques' Winston Riley), and Aaron "Dego" Davis.[2] The Sensations had a successful audition for producer Arthur "Duke" Reid, and the group had mid-1960s success with "Everyday is Just...

John Howard Riley (b. 16 February 1943, Huddersfield) is an English jazz pianist and composer. Riley began on piano at age six, and began playing jazz as early as age 13. He studied at the University of Wales (1961-66), Indiana University in America under Dave Baker (1966-67), and then at York University (1967-70).
