Malcolm Holcombe is an American acoustic / folk musician based in North Carolina. Try as you might to use other adjectives, when you write about Holcombe and his work, you always come back to rugged and rustic. His visage appears to be carved of granite, and his voice is a sculpture crafted of tree bark and discarded railroad iron. His words and images cling to you for hours, even days, like wood smoke. His is a sound that combines harmonica-blessed folk, acoustic blues, stringband country, and smalltown-bred soul. .
Roscoe Holcomb, (born as Roscoe Halcomb September 5, 1912 - died February 1, 1981) was an American singer, banjo player, and guitarist from Daisy, Kentucky. A prominent figure in Appalachian folk music, Holcomb was the inspiration for the term "high, lonesome sound," coined by folklorist and friend John Cohen. The term is now used to describe bluegrass singing, although Holcomb was not, strictly speaking, a bluegrass performer. Holcomb's repertoire included old-time music, hymns, and blues ballads. He was a competent harmonica player, and sang many of his most memorable songs a cappella. Holcomb sang in a falsetto deeply informed by...

Inspired by God's Word, Ellie recorded and released two EPs full of songs based on the Psalms and other scriptures, Magnolia EP and With You Now. Even with zero dollars spent on promotion, the response to these two EPs was remarkable in a way Ellie never saw coming. To...
Roscoe Shelton (August 22, 1931 – July 27, 2002) was an American electric blues and R&B singer. He is best remembered for his 1965 hit single, "Strain on My Heart," and his working relationships with both The Fairfield Four and Bobby Hebb. Other notable recordings include "Think It Over" and "Baby Look What You're Doin' To Me". Fred James, who produced much of Shelton's later work, noted that Shelton moved effortlessly into soul, unlike many of his 1950s blues and R&B recording contemporaries. In the early 1950's Roscoe Shelton (born in Lynchburg, TN), joined the legendary gospel quartet the Fairfield...
