NAYO (pronounced Nigh-O) jumps out from within the Yoruba name of Temitope Odunayo Abidoye, born in Lagos, Nigeria and singing from day one. Her Nigerian culture travelled with her around the world as a girl, while she incorporated its rhythms into the new beats and sounds she found in England, the United States, and the rest of West Africa. Hanayo (花代, Nakajima Hanayo?, born 1970) is a Japanese musician and artist. She is known for her playful and subversive artwork, often deeply rooted in Japanese culture. Hanayo currently lives and works in Berlin. In 1989 Hanayo began training as a junior geisha in Tokyo, publishing an account of the experience in her 1991 book, Oshakuchan No. 1.
