Monocle is a NYC-based group that fuses droning, hypnotic sounds, catchy melodies, and subtle shifts in harmony with thoughtful composition. Kirill Pokrovsky was born in Moscow, the capital of the Soviet-Union. Kirill's musical career began at the tender age of five when he took his first music lessons from his mother, an instructor and accomplished pianist. From that moment on music would determine Kirill's entire life. Pokrovsky continued his studies at the Music School, where he learned to play the piano, the oboe and the saxophone. This band operated out of Greeley, Colorado whose Chicory label apparently issued a number of mutated psychedelic punk singles circa 1966-67. Their "Spider And The Fly", is a re-creation of someone's nightmare. Falsetto shrieks of 'Help Me, Help Me' are superimposed upon a booming bass and mysterious organ, and echo effects. The end result is a most unusual single. Prior to this they'd recorded an earlier 45. The 'A' side "Psychedelic (That's Where It's At)" has some effective percussion and guitar backing which gives way to an instrumental freak-out.
