Pieter Koen grew up in Standerton South-Africa. He was a member of the Drakensberg Boys Choir. He studied at Pretoria Technicon where he was a member of the music group Rondomtalies. After studying Pieter joined some of the local community radio stations as a DJ. Pieter then went on as presenter of the television program "Kunskafee" and then an announcer of the hit Kyk-net series "Kwela".Pieter released his first album in 1997 "Run with me".
