Markos Vamvakaris (10 May 1905 in Ano Chora in Syros – 8 February 1972) (Greek: Μάρκος Βαμβακάρης), was a rebetiko musician. He is universally referred to by rebetiko writers and fans simply by his first name, Markos. The great significance of Vamvakaris for the rebetiko is also reflected by his nickname; the "patriarch of rebetiko". Vamvakaris was born on May 10, 1905 in Ano Chora, Syros, Greece. Devakant was born 1955 near to Los Angeles in California. He is a master of world music and plays sacred music from many spiritual and cultural traditions, including the music of Zen monasteries and Tibetan Temples. He currently lives in Europe and has had concert tours in India, Europe, USA, Japan, and Chile. His concerts include performance on many instruments. He has performed and recorded with Deva Premal, Prem Joshua, Manish Vyas and others. .
