Part of their appeal lay in their irreverence: they described themselves as ’80s bubblegum’ on their business card. The melodic Particles sound is reflected...
The Articles were a ska-jazz band from Detroit, Michigan. They started gaining national noteriety when a radio version of their song "Starsky" ended up on Moon Ska Records "Skarmageddon 3". Moon Ska signed them to a record deal and they released "Flip F'Real" (produced by prominent ska record producer Victor Rice). After that release they were featured on Moon Ska Records Moon Stomp Tour which showcased their latest greatest talent (They toured with Easy Big Fella of Seattle, WA and the Robustos of Atlanta, GA). Sadly, their record label Moon Ska, collapsed three years after their debut on that label....
Articles of Faith were an American hardcore punk band from 1981-1985, formed in Chicago, IL. Their sound featured hooks and venom, accompanied by lyrics bemoaning the difficulty of finding freedom and fulfillment in a cookie-cutter, mass-consumption-driven society, typically but not always delivered at a searing pace. While the band's influence was blunted by being based in Chicago, they maintained close musical and thematic ties to the Washington DC / Dischord Records scene. Drummer Virus X briefly left the band in 1984, due to the relative waning of the band's political emphasis, but returned to record In This Life. Vocalist/guitarist Vic...
Charmparticles recently came across a disappointing notion: they were completely uninspired by the long-established musical tradition of ‹write album. record album. release album. wait for three years and more resources. repeat›. It became collectively understood that in this digital age, they should be free to try alternate ways of creating music, recording music, and—most importantly—releasing music. The band sought to restructure (or completely destroy, in some cases) their process; to challenge band members’ individual and collective skills; and to pique the interest of fans, colleagues, and any passers-by. Several ideas were considered. One idea has become The Year We Make...
The Definite Articles band started in 2006 as an acoustic duo: violin and cello/vocals. Over the past couple of years, the ranks have swelled to include viola, keyboard, bass, and drums. Their style leans towards "indie-classical" -- the same vein as pursued by groups such as The Arcade Fire, Joanna Newsom, and ELO, in which a blending of conventional and classical instruments is executed in a natural way. In May 2008, the band completed their first EP, Boy Wonder, and have just released their first full-length album, King Merriweather. .
