The Modern Jazz Quartet was formed in 1952 by Milt Jackson (vibraphone), John Lewis (piano, musical director), Percy Heath (bass), and Kenny Clarke (drums). Connie Kay replaced Clarke in 1955. Various of the members had played together backing other artists such as Dizzy Gillespie and Ray Brown, and in Jackson's own Quartet.
Through their long existence, they have worked with Classical musicians and are known for incorporating elements of Classical music into jazz, being one of the most notable examples of the style called Third Stream.

Quarteto em Cy (a play on words of the Portuguese for 'Quartet in B' by poet and lyricist Vinicius de Moraes) is a quartet of sisters from the Tropicalia musical movement in Brazil. They first became known for their collaborations with Vinicius de Moraes, and later worked with a number of other composers from the movement. They are Cybele, Cylene, Cynara, and Cyva. .

The Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet, also commonly called the Golden Gate Quartet, is a vocal group formed in 1931 in Berkeley, Virginia. The GGJQ was influenced as much by the tradition of mid century vocal groups like the Mills Brothers and the Three Keys as it was by the tradition of gospel vocal groups. Secular hits included recordings of "Coming in on a Wing and a Prayer," and "Stalin Wasn't Stalin." Sacred hits included “Give Me Two Wings”and “I’m A Pilgrim." Members included Robert Ford, A.C. Griffin, Willie Johnson, William Langford, Henry Owens and Orlandus Wilson.
