Bristol sound (see Trip-hop also) in it's earliest roots included a variety of UK Bristol based artistes from Massive Attack (aka The Wild Bunch), Shara Nelson, Tricky, Portishead and to the more soul/funk/pop sounding Carlton. It was also linked to the club/dub/hip-hop scene that was happening in certain clubs like the infamous Dugout Club. All though many local acts felt this so called 'Bristol sound' was a misnomer as it did little to reflect any of the other musical movements within the city, especially the so called 'Redland' sound, which was a healthy local scene centered around a number of psychedelic or 'acid' punk bands such as The Claytowne troupe, The Herb Garden, Beowulf UK, Myriad Lifeforms, The Seers, The heads and The All night Chemists
Now Bristol doesn't have an 'a particular sound' but thankfully now incorpates anything from Goth, Indie, Punk , Rock and Dance into it's musical melting pot just like many of the bigger ultra hip musical cities of Glasgow and Manchester. .
