Southern hardcore originated in the beginning of the 2000s when metalcore bands started to experiment with hard rock and heavy metal influences. The biggest examples of this genre are Every Time I Die, Maylene & The Sons of Disaster, He Is Legend and the post-hardcore influenced 'Memphis May Fire'. Other bands have approached this style from a sludgier perspective. .
