1970 yılında İstanbul'da doğdu. Sırasıyla bitirdiği okullar; Fatih Gazi İlkokulu, F.M.V.Ö. Işık Lisesi Orta Bölümü, İstanbul Atatürk Fen Lisesi, Boğaziçi Üniversitesi Elektronik Meslek Yüksekokulu, Boğaziçi Üniversitesi İnşaat Mühendisliği. Müziğe ilkokulda mandolin çalarak başladı. Lise yıllarında gitarla tanışmasıyla beraber, ciddi anlamdaki ilk müzik çalışmalarına başladı. Okul grubuyla beraber çeşitli konserler verdi ve Milliyet Liseler Arası Müzik Yarışmalarına katıldı. Üniversite yıllarında kurduğu ilk grubu "Exon" ile rock tarzındaki İngilizce sözlü bestelerini seslendirmeye başlayarak, grubuyla çeşitli illerde konserler verdi.Gülhane yarışmalarında iki dalda birincilik alan grubu ile, karışık bir kasette bir parçasını seslendirme şansını yakaladı. Serdar Somuncu was born on 3 June 1968 in Istanbul and is a Turkish-German performer and director. He studied music, acting and theatrical direction in Maastricht. He was first noted with his long lasting tour called 'Nachlass eines Massenmörders' in which he play-read his own interpretation of selected passages from the book 'Mein Kampf' (German for 'My battle') by Adolf Hitler. In 2000 Sumuncu started another series of readings presenting excerpts from a famous speech from 18 February 1943 by the Reich's minister of propaganda Joseph Goebbels. Among others, he performed in front of former prisoners of concentration camps Buchenwald...

Serdar Ortaç is one of the leading singers in the Turkish popular music movement which roughly started in the 1990s. Ortaç was a VJ and was working at a radio station when he composed his hit song "Karabiberim". He shared a simple version of "Karabiberim" with his listeners during an ordinary radio broadcast. Then the song became a major hit and also made Ortaç a star. .
