soukous | tr

Soukous is the hugely popular congolese music style commonly heard in beer joints and nightclubs across East and Central Africa. Put simply, it consists of highly infectious, bouncy, guitar-based pop music based around a series of repeated guitar riffs accompanied by a simple chorus. Initially made popular by the legendary Zairean guitar giant Franco, leading contemporary exponents include Kanda Bongo Man and Koffi Alomide, who inject a large degree of showmanship into their energetic stage performances. This is the kind of music that is made for dancing out in the open on a hot and sultry night with a cold beer near at hand! .
