Nirvana, Seattle, ABD'li punk/grunge/rock grubu. Bas gitarist Novoselic ve gitar/vokal Cobain yaşadıkları yer olan ve Seattle'a çok yakın bir kasaba olan Aberdeen'de 1985 yılında tanıştılar. Müzikal çalışmalarının ilk somut örneği "Stiff Woodies" adıyla gerçekleşti. Bu ilk oluşumda Cobain bateri çalarken Novoselic de bas çalıyordu. Grubun belli bir gitaristi ise yoktu. 1987 yılında grup adını "Nirvana" olarak değiştirdi; bu değişimle birlikte Cobain vokal ve gitara geçerken gruba Chad Channing'de baterist olarak eklendi.
