Modern Laika is a popular music genre in Greece. It is a mix of Greek national folk music with arabesque/oriental elements and makes heavy use of bouzouki and drums. It is closely related to the Greek skyladika sub-genre and the Bulgarian chalga. It is often mistakenly referred to as greek pop, although the two genres have nothing in common. Modern Laika music is usually considered low-class and of non-existent artistic value, however it has been the predominant music genre in Greece during the 00s. .
