Hessel is a singing bar owner from the Island of Terschelling in the North of the Netherlands. His musical inspiration was born out of boredom when he started playing songs in his empty bar on a borrowed guitar, but his fame grew into a tourist attraction that is known to everyone who ever visited the island.

Hessel performs almost every night in his bar/restaurant "eetcafé De Groene Weide" in the little village called Hoorn in the center of the island. He performs covers and his own songs. He released 7 albums of which the first one could be considered the best.

Hessel hardly leaves the island but in the previous millennium had some sold out concerts on the wasteland, such as in the "Ahoy" music hall in Rotterdam and in Franeker. .
