Zal Idrissa Sissokho comes from Senegal and is of the Sissokho griot family that has passed down the music and stories of the Mandinko people for hundreds of years. He plays the kora, the beautiful 21 string African harp, an ancient Afro-Mandingue instrument, the knowledge of which is passed from father to son. He continued his education with kora virtuouso Toumany Kouyaté. Zal is also an accomplished singer in Mandingue and Wolof languages, as well as French.

Zal Idrissa Sissokho was born in Senegal and has lived in Montreal, Quebec since 1999. He has worked with many artists in Canada, such as Takadja, the Diouf brothers, Richard Séguin, Lilison, IKS, Hart Rouge, Muna Mingolé and Alpha Yaya Diallo. He has been featured on over 10 albums of artists of various genres, including Monica Freire, Corneille, Lousnak, Jubilation Gospel Choir, and Dodo Planet C, to name a few. In December 2005 and September 2007, he appeared in Las Vegas in the Cirque du Soleil show, "O."

Currently, Zal is promoting his new CD, Silaba, and performing with his band, Buntalo, as well as world tours as a solo artist.
