Pulse State started in the late 90's as an emotional outlet for the Detroit based musician Mike Phipps, who also uses Pulse State as a pseudonym. Moving through different electronic styles during its lifetime, Pulse State has been operating in the melodic EBM, electro-pop and darkwave spheres for some years now.

A few early releases paved the way for the long-awaited debut album, With a Single Step (2008). The free album, now unavailable from its original source, focused on what Mike felt were his best songs to that point, reproduced to his standards at the time.

Work on new music began shortly thereafter. Mike worked on and off writing, producing and vocalizing the songs that would define the future of Pulse State. Now, after several years, the other foot falls. With the latest release (the Flowers for Mankind EP) and the forthcoming album, darkwave and electro-Goth elements are woven into the tapestry of Pulse State, yet the project remains somewhat close to its synth/EBM roots at the same time.

In addition, Mike also operates under the Pulse State moniker as a remixer, delivering anything from sensual touches to full-on dancefloor attacks. Pulse State remixes have been compared favorably against contemporaries such as Apoptygma Berzerk, Razed in Black and VNV Nation, in terms of both quality and quantity. Pulse State remixes have appeared on releases from the Metropolis, Infacted, Dependent and Out of Line labels.
