The Madeleines formed after childhood friends James (guitar/vocals), Matt (guitar/vocals) and Dunc (formerly drums), who went to school together in South Wales, where they spent their teenage years playing punk and new wave covers in various bands, all found themselves a few years later living in London. Out for Jamesโ€™ birthday, making music together again came up heatedly in conversation, and new friend Mike, originally from Knebworth, drunkenly promised to buy a bass. Thankfully, Mike is a man of his word, and a couple of days later they found themselves writing songs together, all agreeing that The Smiths, Television, The Cure, Ramones, Pavement and a few others were the best things on Earth. They knew from past experience not to talk about what they disagree on.

After spending 2004 building a fanbase with shows at Truck Festival, Young and Lost at Frog., White Heat (and the WHORE all-dayer), Rough Trade Shopsโ€™ RoTa, DrownedInSound at In The City, Manchester, Sensible Sundays, UK escalator and others, the band are releasing their debut single, a double-A side 7โ€ of live favourites Trouble and Safety Net on Destructible Records.

Unfortunately Dunc left to pursue a different creative direction, and was replaced by Brochan Watts (drums) in mid-2006.
