Several bands have used the name The Prime Movers over the years.

1. A young Iggy Pop sung for sixties Detroit garage band The Prime Movers & a track I'm A Man has been released in 2008 on a compilation of the Sixties Ann Arbor/Detroit record label [label
]A-Square.

2. The Prime Movers were a Medway Towns (Kent, UK) band active in the late '80s/early '90s

Members of the Band also played in The Prisoners and The James Taylor Quartet. The band later released 5 more albums as The SolarFlares.


3. The Prime Movers were a three piece band from the greater Los Angeles area.

During the mid 80's The Prime Movers broke out in a big way after releasing the critically acclaimed LP "Museum" on their own Birdcage Records.

The Prime Movers signed to Island Records and had two singles, ON THE TRAIL and DARK WESTERN NIGHT enter the UK charts. The band received coveted support slots on the BIG COUNTRY UK tour and The THOMAS DOLBY Aliens Ate My Buick US tour and received massive airplay on The BBC in the UK.

Band Members: Severs (Joe) Ramsey, Bass Guitar and Vocals, Gary Putman Guitar and vocals and Curt Lichter on drums. Lead Vocalist Gregory Markell was added to the band prior to the release of their self-titled EP,
The Prime Movers. They later went back to a three piece band sighting "chemistry issues".

The Prime Movers disbanded in the late 80's only to reform as Dread Zeppelin.

Jan 2009 latest. The Prime Movers have currently reformed & a digital release is available "STRONG AS I AM".

4. Boston's Prime Movers were part of the 1980s Garage Revival. The band was very popular locally, but broke up in the late 80s, with lead singer Cam Ackland going on to front the Voodoo Dolls, and guitarist Dick Tate, drummer Dennis McCarthy, and bassist Jeff Sugarman forming the Slaves. However, recently the band has reformed and is currently playing and recording. .
