Evanescence (engl. von lat. evanescere: „Dahinschwinden“) ist eine US-amerikanische Alternative-Rock-Band aus Little Rock, Arkansas. Evans Blue ist eine kanadische Band, die Anfang 2005 entstand. Die fünf Musiker – zu dem Zeitpunkt in drei verschiedenen Bands tätig – lernten sich über eine Nachrichtenbörse kennen, über die sie kurz danach auch Trevor Kustiak fanden, der ihr erstes Album produzierte. Der Name Evans Blue – ein Farbstoff, der ins Blut injiziert wird, um das Blutvolumen zu messen – war eine Idee vom damaligen Sänger, Kevin Matisyn, der den Namen aus einem seiner Medizinbücher hatte.
