Schoolboy Q (* 26. Oktober 1986 in Wiesbaden; bürgerlich: Quincy Matthew Hanley) ist ein US-amerikanischer Rapper.
Leben und Wirken
Schoolboy Q wurde auf einem Militärstützpunkt in Wiesbaden geboren. Sein Vater arbeitete in der Army. Nachdem sich seine Eltern getrennt hatten, ging seine Mutter mit ihm zunächst nach Texas. Den Nachnamen ihres Sohnes wählte sie nach dem Zufallsprinzip aus. Später wuchs Schoolboy Q in South Los Angeles, auf. Er besuchte die Crenshaw High School. Dort spielte er erfolgreich Football. Zunächst waren auch seine Schulleistungen gut, wodurch sein Spitz- bzw. Künstlername Schoolboy entstand (der zweite Teil Q ist eine Abkürzung für Quincy)....
Schoolboy, has quickly established his name in the EDM world after releasing his massive remix of SHM & Knife Party’s “Antidote” which has received an incredible amount of support from Knife Party, who has played the remix at every major festival around the globe. Amidst all the hype, his highly anticipated EP “The Science Project” was released under Excision’s label (Rottun) in early 2012. The EP has 6 original bass driven tracks, most notably “Zombies Ate My Neighbours” which quickly climbed the beatport charts and swiftly became a fan favorite. Schoolboys...see the picture above...ignore the songs below...this is a Paradise Valley (suburb of Phoenix) band that played 'teen clubs,' and doing great cover versions of 'metal' songs of the era...how do I know? I saw them play at 'Main Street' (which has gone through different mutations since 1982) in Mesa, AZ, and they autographed (all except Dan Wexler...he was too full of himself, even at that time) my e.p. One day Schoolboy grew just a little bit older; and in doing so, realised that not everything lasts forever. Slowly he became obsessed with the matter of impermanence and since making music was his thing, it was only a matter of time before these concepts entered his writing.
Previously Schoolboy had been touring and rocking with a heavy funk outfit and he now recruited two of his favorites from that project (fuzz bass and percussion), together with a Welsh lass who kicks ass on the drum kit to form the Death Trio - so named because of their music’s thematic...
