Victor Assis Brasil (born August 28, 1945; died 1981) was a Brazilian jazz saxophonist. He was the brother of classical pianist João Carlos Assis Brasil. He studied at Berklee College of Music and later taught improvisation technique in Brazil. He also toured on three continents. He is said to have been more popular outside Brazil than in it and his style was strongly influenced by non-Brazilian musicians. .
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, João Brasil completed his graduate studies at Berklee College of Music in 2004, returning to his native Rio afterwards. His work consists mainly of experimenting with collaging different artists and music styles, creating unique mash-ups that bring together seemingly impossible combinations. He also runs a party in Rio called "Calzone". His work is available on his myspace page (www.myspace.com/joaobrasil) and it can be downloaded from his blog http://fmjoaobrasil.blogspot.com/, in which he released his album "Big Forbidden Dance" as well as his latest project, "Baile Parangolé". .
