Marktmusik is the German term for the neo-medieval music which is played at medieval markets and festivals. It is supposed to sound medieval to a modern listener but it has no aspirations to be historically accurate, which empowers the artists to experiment with modern styles and techniques creatively. It aims to entertain and put the audience into the mood of a medieval atmosphere. It is to be distinguished from authentic medieval music although you could find both, authentic and fictitious songs, on a medieval market. .
