The Winnie Coopers- Revenge of the Nerds Remember those students at school who sat down the front, did their homework and joined the student council? Taunted. Rejected. Disillusioned. They now seek revenge in the form of the Gold Coast hip hop crew, the Winnie Coopers.

Initially, the project was a collaboration between The Educator (vocals) and DJ's Indelible and Webstar, and in 2002, they won the coveted Musicoz Hip Hop Award. Time passed. There were girls to marry, web design businesses to establish and karaoke bars to sing at.

In 2005, the Winnie Coopers launched their debut album "Being Different" (Starving Kids Records/MRA Distribution) described as "one of a kind... these tracks will have you laughing, yet seriously thinking in no time... a really good listen for someone who is after something completely out of the ordinary" (Chanel Bartolo, mediasearch.com.au). New players were also added to the line-up. Eloquence joined The Educator as the new microphonist, Young Tubs added some low-end on the bass, DJ Bigbad took charge on the decks and Fingers Malone kept time on the drums.

In October 2005, their prayers were answered. The Coopers won a competition held by Triple J's Hip Hop show to support their heroes; Ugly Duckling (USA) in Melbourne for two sold out shows at the Revolver Upstairs club. As a result, their track "Success" was added to high rotation on Triple J and the lads were selected as a Next Crop Artist for Ausmusic Month.

The Winnie Coopers have been major force in developing the hip hop scene on the Gold Coast, Queensland, hosting the Hiphoperations night each Thursday at the Miami Shark Bar and drawing international artists to their doorstep. Their willingness to develop the local scene paid dividends when they packed the Hot House stage at the Big Day Out. Touring relentlessly down the Pacific highway, they have shared the stage with the likes of Resin Dogs, TZU, Good Buddha, Butterfingers, Bliss n Eso, Regurgitator, Xavier Rudd, Koolism, Def Wish Cast and Downsyde, plus international supports for De La Soul, Common and Edan. Combining laid back and party tunes, with lyrics that all nerds can relate to, the Winnie Coopers guarantee to rock the party out. One only hopes that their peers will stop teasing them soon.

More good times to come. .
