La True Symphonic Rockestra comienza en 1997 cuando Dirk Ulrich se encontraba produciendo el álbum de una banda y a ésta se le ocurrió la idea de grabar algunas partes con un par de cantantes de ópera. Gracias a esto, Ulrich tuvo la ocurrencia de grabar parte del repertorio de los tres tenores (Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo y José Carreras) en versión rock. Rockestra was a Paul McCartney-led supergroup of at least thirty English rockers. The credited list appears at the bottom of the back cover of the LP. The name was first given to an assemblage of famous rock stars that were brought together by McCartney for the final Wings album, 1979's Back to the Egg.
