LUNA SEA, nace básicamente de dos bandas por una lado tenemos a LUNACY a la cual pertenecen J e Inoran y formada en 1986, y PINOCCHINO con Sugizo y Shinya, ambas bandas tenían su centro de operación en la ciudad de Kanagawa. Ryuichi proviene de otra banda llamada SLAUGHTER.
