Considered the biggest interpreter of Noel Rosa, Aracy de Almeida (Aug 19, 1914 - Jun 20, 1988) started singing in churches in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro until being taken to the radio intermediary Custódio Mesquita in 1933. Soon she made radio fame as interpreter of the sambas of Philips, Mayrink Veiga, Ipanema and Tupi, and made history with fabulous interpretations of "Palpite Infeliz" (N. Rosa), "Tenha Pena de Mim" (C. Sousa/ Babaú), "Fez Bobagem (Brave Assis),"Camisa Amarela" (Ary Barroso) and "Feitiço da Vila" (N. Rosa/ Vadico). She was, next to Carmen Miranda, the biggest singer of sambas of years 30. After acting successfully in boate Vogue in Copacabana in the 40's, between 1950 and 1951 she recorded 2 albums dedicated to Noel Rosa, that would be responsible for the reevaluation of the workmanship of the Poeta da Vila. It had a frank personality and a bohemian spirit, always spoke how it desired, and its way to sing was determinative to define the routes of the samba sung for feminine voice. In the end of her life she acted as judge in TV shows "Buzina do Chacrinha" ("Chacrinha's Buzzer") and the Silvio Santos' "Show de Calouros" (Freshmen Show). On the latter she was famously known for giving low ratings to almost all the freshmen as she was very demanding in their performances. .
