This is a bio for Australian post-punk group The Stickmen active in the late 1990s, not American post-punk group The Stick Men active in the early-mid 1980s.
The Stickmen were a band based in Hobart, Tasmania, and released two CDs, the first self titled in 1998 and the second, 'Man Made Stars' in 1999. Both captured the band's legendary live intensity well and garnered high praise from listeners and critics. With an eventual lineup of Aldous Kelly (vocals, guitar), Ianto Kelly (drums), Luke Osbourne (bass) and Matt Geeves (turntable) the band were renown for their control of speed, dynamics and atmosphere while ostensibly playing dark, urban surf rock. The band split in 1999 with Aldous Kelly moving to Graymouth New Zealand to form The Field, Ianto Kelly joining The Night Terrors in Melbourne, Osbourne moving to Canberra and Geeves remaining in Hobart.
A compilation of these two releases entitled Who Said It Would Be Good? was released on Solar/Sonar via Shock Records in June 2008.
