What began as a one-off split 45 by songwriters Greg Cartwright (The Oblivians, Compulsive Gamblers, Reigning Sound) and Coco Hames (the Ettes, Coco Motion) quickly evolved into The Parting Gifts. "I thought, I'd write a song, Greg would write a song, we'd record them together, and that would be that," says Hames. "Luckily, Greg's prolific awesome switch was on, and we got this whole record instead." Offers Cartwright, "I was just so impressed with how easily things went that I was inspired to write more material for the project." And so we have their debut full-length on In The Red....

Gifts From Enola was a band from Harrisonburg, Virginia that formed in 2005 and split up in 2013. They juxtapose elements of post-rock with a burgeoning hard-rock approach and a touch of the "experimental" style, to soften that harshness. Some songs explode with blistering intensity and then sink slowly back into sonic landscapes with a milder disposition. At some points, the sound climbs out of that landscape, developing an ambient texture salted with a few field recordings. Their use of hypnotic riffs can be singularly effective. .

Michael Garner and Dan Chang grew up in Danville, CA -- a small town in Northern California home to fond childhood memories, girls with cooties, and the world’s best deli, Doeminico’s Delicatessen. While strangers to each other in Danville, Michael and Dan would eventually meet at UCLA on one fortuitous night while auditioning for Awaken A Cappella, UCLA’s premiere a cappella group to which Matt Frankel already belonged.
