Il gruppo musicale Alì Babà viene formato ad Enna, Sicilia, nel dicembre 1992 da alcuni musicisti locali, provenienti da diverse aree musicali e con un certo bagaglio alle spalle. Pur non partendo come gruppo reggae, sin dall’inizio nella loro musica sono comunque presenti le strutture reggae e caraibiche che pian piano caratterizzeranno lo stile odierno del gruppo. Quest’ultimo può essere definito pop reggae, in virtù della fusione tra elementi di pop maturo e classico reggae.
