One of the On-U Sound stable, under the creative direction of Adrian Sherwood, the New Age Steppers was a collective of musicians which varied over time. The overriding sound was a heavy and chaotic dub, with an underpinning bass guitar, and substantial use of samples, often from other On-U Sound creations. Their first release, the eponymously titled album, New Age Steppers, was the first LP to be released on On-U Sound, and as such is an important landmark for the label, and a seminal work in dub reggae. By combining the efforts of traditional Middle Eastern and jazz influences with modern day elements of electronic, and hip-hop, Qaballah Steppers first established themselves as innovators for dub genre with their 1997 debut album "Dub in Fusion." Collaborating producers Professor Shehab and Jean-Pierre Sluys who make up this foundation, eventually found themselves touring Europe in support of their first album and even acquiring drummer Francolis Lardeau, turning Qaballah Steppers into a three piece. Two years later, the band had that chance to flex as a three piece with their follow up "Passage at Noon" on their own Baraka Foundation. .
Power Steppers let their music and images to do the talking. Rooted in the Sound System scene in London but aware of hardcore underground music scenes world wide including techno, punk and noise, they endorse protest through music as well as other means! Using bass and delay as their primary instruments of protest they build intense, minimal dubs, which hypnotise, en-trance and inspire. With musical inspirations ranging from Jah Shaka to Faust via Brain Ticket and Ash Ra Temple it can be seen why their sound is so distinctive and continues to develop at every new recording session.
