モービッド・エンジェル (Morbid Angel) は、1983年に結成された、アメリカ・フロリダ州・タンパ出身のデスメタルバンド。
宗教的雰囲気を感じさせる荘厳で複雑な構成のリフと、ピート・サンドヴァルによる高速ドラミング（ブラストビート）が特徴的。
その高度な演奏能力やメンバーのミュージシャンシップから、同業界のバンドを始め多くのアーティストから尊敬されている。特にライヴでの演奏は定評があり、ライヴアルバム「Entangled In Chaos」で確認できるように、元々高速な原曲よりもスピードを上げているにもかかわらず、全く演奏が乱れない。トレイ自身も「モービッド・エンジェルはライブバンドである」と公言しており、数多くのライブをこなしている。しかしながら、メンバーに関しては1990年代に入ってからもトレイとピート以外のラインナップは安定せず、しばしばメンバー交代が行われてきた。
日本ではライナーノーツでの表現にちなんで「デスメタルの魔王」とも呼ばれ親しまれる。
デス、オビチュアリー、ディーサイドらと共にフロリダを中心に活動を行い、カンニバル・コープス、サフォケイション、マルヴォレント・クリエイションらニューヨーク勢と共に、1990年代初頭のアメリカデスメタルシーンの創生期を支え、世界中のデスメタルバンドに影響を与えた。
イギリスの音楽雑誌『Terrorizor』における「デスメタルアルバムベスト40」では彼等のアルバム2枚がランクインし、その内「Alters of Madness」は見事1位に輝いた。また同じく音楽雑誌である『Decibel』においては、トレイが「デスメタルのギタリスト」で1位にランクインしている。
彼らがレコーディングに使用したフロリダ州タンパのモリサウンドとそこを拠点に活躍していたプロデューサーのスコット・バーンスが作り出すサウンドは世界中のデスメタルバンドの憧れになり、世界中から次々とデスメタルバンドがレコーディングに訪れるようになった。
