スティーヴ・ヴァイ（Steve Vai、本名 Steven Siro Vai、1960年6月6日）は、 アメリカのミュージシャン。 ギタリスト、作曲家。フランク・ザッパ門下生の1人で、 その中では最も商業的に成功したと言える人物。 　 アルカトラス、デヴィッド・リー・ロス・バンド、ホワイトスネイクなどに在籍していた、 テクニカルな変態フレーズが持ち味のギタリスト、 というのがおおよそのパブリック・イメージだろう。 　 その一筋縄で行かない捻れっぷりを紐解くカギは84年の1stアルバム『FLEX-ABLE』にある。 ここで展開されるマニアック&変態チックな濃い楽曲群を聴けば、 彼がもともと、奇才フランク・ザッパの門下生(ザッパの曲の採譜!をしたこともあるらしい) だったことが実感できるはずだ。 　 このアルバムを出した後はイングヴェイ・マルムスティーンの後任で アルカトラスなど“ギターを抱えた道場破り"の如くバンドを渡り歩いたが、 やはり王道のメタル～ハード・ロック・バンドよりも、 自由度が高いバンドの方が彼のプレイが活かされていたようだ。 中でもバカテク・ベーシストのビリー・シーンらと組んだデヴィッド・リー・ロス・バンドでの、 良い意味での悪ノリ加減は彼の仕事の中でも一際インパクトが強かった。 　 ホワイトスネイク脱退後はソロで『パッション・アンド・ウォーフェア』をリリースし、 93年にはT.M.スティーヴンス、テリー・ボジオらと自身のバンドVaiも結成。 その後もインスト、歌モノ含むソロ作品をコンスタントに出しており、 ものによっては捻れ具合もユルめなバラードやメロディアスなフレーズなど、 多様なサウンドを聴くことができる。 　 05年、スタジオ作としては前作『ウルトラ・ゾーン』から約5年ぶりとなる新作 『リアル・イリュージョン』を発表しており、デヴィッド・リー・ロス・バンド時代の同僚でもあるビリー・シーンとの壮絶なバトルが堪能できる。 .
