Converge is a 4-piece American band, formed in February of 1990 in Salem, Massachusetts, United States. Playing a blend of extreme metal and hardcore punk, this pioneer outfit helped define a lot of the rudiments of the fast-burgeoning metalcore and mathcore genres. They first started by playing covers of hardcore, punk and heavy metal songs, being self-confessed "hardcore kids with leftover Slayer riffs". The band soon graduated to playing live performances in 1991 after recording some demos on a 4-track recorder. The Convergence Quartet - American Taylor Ho Bynum (cornet), Canadian Harris Eisenstadt (drums), and the UK pairing of Alexander Hawkins (piano), and Dominic Lash (double bass) - brings together four leaders of a generation of composer-improvisers who draw on a deep range of influences and traditions in their music. Convergence was born in 2001 by the hand of guitarist Giacomo Mambriani, at first like a melodic death metal band. Their first producing (Colours behind the emotion) got good reviews, but after some months the band broke up due to personal and musical misunderstanding. Giacomo decided to start a new and different musical project, searching a more personal and innovative style.
