De Nieuwe Snaar | ms

This four-headed flemish band started as a folkband in the seventies, around the two brothers Jan (accordeon, guitar...) and Kris Desmet (clarinet, saxophone...) (in the middle), called 'De Snaar'. Later on the violinist changed, and the acrobatic Geert Vermeulen joined the group. Since 2004 de nieuwe snaar was completed with a contrabassist, Walter Poppeliers. Their music is mainly written in dutch, sometimes in cooperation with the absurd-scenariowriter Hugo Matthyssen. The shows are a mix of 'serious' songs, cabaret and circus. Snaarj produces music of particular polarity, existing in the dichotomy of expected and unexpected; eager and patient; familiar and unfamiliar. Snaarj forms a cohesive musical identity by incorporating the diverse musical backgrounds of its members. Snaarj's fresh approach to composition uses elements of indie rock, jazz, and electronic music (among others) to captivate and stimulate open minds. The Internationale Nieuwe Scene is a Belgian theatre collective based in Antwerp. It is modelled after the 'Nuova Scena'; an italian collective, famous because of nobel price winner Dario Fo. The internationale Nieuwe Scene was formed after succes of the opera 'Mistero Buffo' in 1970. An adaptation by Arturo Corso of monoloques by Dario Fo. In the heart of The Hague, De Nieuwe Vrolijkheid has discovered a small refuge far away from the typical The Hague rock sound. The band consists of Natasha on guitar, vox, synth, Pim on drums and Vincent on vox, percussion and organ. More than often, the band is enforced by friends on various instruments.
