Eleanor Friedberger (born September 2, 1976 in Oak Park, Illinois) is an American musician most well-known for being one half of the indie rock duo The Fiery Furnaces, along with her older brother Matthew Friedberger. In the band she contributes the majority of the vocals both on record and during their live performances. Friedberger grew up singing with her grandmother, Olga Sarantos, and family in a Greek Orthodox Church. On July 12, 2011, Merge Records released Friedberger's first solo album, Last Summer. The Spoon song "Anything You Want" and the Franz Ferdinand song "Eleanor Put Your Boots On" were both...
The Friedles were the four Fried brothers from Penns Grove in southwestern New Jersey: Mike and Herman Fried on guitars, Simon Fried on bass and Milton Fried (just 14 years old at the time of their first record!) on drums. They went across the river to Ken-Del Studio in Wilmington, Delaware to make their first record “I Lost Her” / “I’m So Glad” with Milt singing lead vocals. A year later, Friedman struck a chord in the UK, this time with a magical duet (performed with singer Denise Marsa) entitled Lucky Stars. Lucky Stars zoomed to #3 in the UK singles charts...
Navigating an atypical musical expedition, Burnt Friedman’s unusual trajectory curved its way through an adolescent obsession with drums and a singular dedication to amassing a self-recorded audio-library dating from 1978. What followed in the late 80ties was a period of art academia, then immersion in the first flurry of collaborative music projects. Since 1993 he released records under various names, such as Nonplace Urban Field or Drome and began working as Flanger with Uwe Schmidt aka Atom™. As a result of annual travels to Australia and New Zealand the Nu Dub Players took shape in 1997. In the year 2000...
