"The virtuoso from the ancient holy city of Varanasi (Benares) has been studying classical sitar since he was a child, following a long family tradition which over countless generations has produced many great masters (pandits, in Hindi) of Indian stringed instruments.

His first musical guru, in fact, was his highly celebrated grandfather, the late Thakur Mahadev Singh, who in his time was known as "Sitaria Baba," the saint of sitar. Later, he came under the guidance of his father, Ranjit Singh, who gained equal fame as master of the sarod, unlike the sitar a fretless instrument plucked with a coconut shell. And finally, before embarking on his own illustrious career, he attended the master classes of his eminent uncle, late Dr. Rajbhan Singh, former dean and head of the music department of Benares Hindu University, and one of India’s greatest virtuosos of the sitar and surbahar, a larger, more sonorous version of the sitar.

Ajit has nonetheless garnered an impressive list of concert appearances. He has given numerous performances in " India , Europe and others parts of the World " . He has been as featured artist at the many prestigious Organization & Events . The fine art Society , cochin - Kerala has honored him with prestigious title of ' Pandit '.

He has been listed among top 10 musicians on mp3.com "classical " for several times and he was also in the lists of 100 top rated musicians .

As the lead performer at a unique concert held at New Delhi’s Bal Bhawan, a landmark institution for the enhancement of youth education established by India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, Ajit played to a record audience of 15,000 people and again following another concert for "Himalayan Music Festival " where he played an audience of more then 12000 peoples. As a reviewer wrote after one of Ajit’s concerts, "His music soars to the heavens on the zephyr-like strings of his sitar."

Beside his concerts , classes & workshops , he has also given music for Theaters and Films like ' Rajas Reise ' (a Swiss film) , 'vol de nuit' (a Canadian short film ) , some German and Chilean films , some Theaters and also gave concerts for socials cause/awareness like - Tree Festivals , Everybody space , S.E.E.D (save the elephants ) name to few of them .

At present Ajit live in France where he performs , get together with musicians and tours around the world . Each year he also gives some concert specially for schools , colleges & yoga institutes which could be booked in advance , for an discount offer . check back as early as possible !!
